Leanach Cottage: Stained Glass Witness to Culloden History
Capture a tangible piece of Scottish history with this stained glass artwork featuring the iconic Leanach Cottage at Culloden Battlefield .
A Historical Landmark
While the cottage standing today is a beautiful replica dating from 1760, it represents a crucial landmark from that fateful day in 1746. The original farmhouse served a vital, somber role during the Battle of Culloden : it was used exclusively as a field hospital for government troops . Sitting on his bench today, one can only begin to imagine the intensity and tragedy of the hours when the battle raged.
Inspired by the View
This handcrafted stained glass panel was directly inspired by a photograph I took during my visit to the Culloden Battlefield site (view last image). The artwork seeks to capture the quiet stoicism of this little farmhouse as it stands watch over the moor, reminding us of the human reality behind the historical statistics.
The glass art is made out of 66 glass pieces.

Pictures will give you an impression of colour and structure, but it will never look like the original art. Each glass is different in colour and structure which isn´t possible to capture in a picture. Glass in kind is always different to a picture. Coloration and reflections are dependent on many factors like time of the day, lighting conditions and so on.
