Culloden: A Stained Glass Tribute to Scottish History
This artwork is a solemn yet beautiful memorial to one of the most pivotal and tragic moments in history: the Battle of Culloden, fought on April 16th, 1746.
Remembering the Battlefield
Inspired by my personal visit to the Culloden Battlefield and Heritage Center in May 2017, this piece captures the quiet, haunting atmosphere of the moor. It was challenging to reconcile the sunny day of my visit with the brutal reality of the fight, where up to 6,300 Jacobites under Bonnie Prince Charlie faced the government army under the Duke of Cumberland.
The final image in the artwork is based on the 20-foot memorial cairn erected in 1881 by Duncan Forbes. My design was directly inspired by the photograph I took personally during my visit , ensuring the emotional gravity and composition of the site are captured accurately.
A Living Chapter of Scottish Heritage
The legacy of Culloden profoundly changed the entire culture and future of Scotland . For those who have lived in or visited the Highlands, you understand how important and still alive this chapter of Scottish history remains. This stained glass art serves as a permanent, luminous reminder of that fateful day and a tribute to all the fallen warriors.
The glass art is made out of 161 glass pieces.

Pictures will give you an impression of colour and structure, but it will never look like the original art. Each glass is different in colour and structure which isn´t possible to capture in a picture. Glass in kind is always different to a picture. Coloration and reflections are dependent on many factors like time of the day, lighting conditions and so on.
