"Rose Window - Variation 1": Nidaros Cathedral Stained Glass Suncatcher

Introducing "Rose Window - Variation 1," the newest addition to my "Trondheim" Collection , inspired by the breathtaking architecture of Nidaros Cathedral (Nidarosdomen) . This beautiful circular stained glass artwork captures the spiritual and artistic heart of Europe's northernmost medieval cathedral.

Artistry and Detail

This piece is a meticulously crafted representation of the Cathedral's famous West Front Rose Window, scaled perfectly for your home.

Piece Count & Size: The artwork is composed of 105 individual glass pieces , assembled into a precise circular design. It measures 28.0 cm in diameter , making it an ideal size for hanging in any window or against a wall.

Technique: The entire artwork is crafted using the delicate copper foil technique (the Tiffany method ), allowing for the intricate curves and symmetry characteristic of Gothic rose windows.

Inspiration: I was deeply inspired while standing inside Nidarosdomen , enjoying the light streaming through the massive Rose Window of the West Front (completed in 1930). The original inspiration photo, taken on July 1st, 2023 , is included in the gallery.

This artwork is a tribute to the grandest medieval cathedral in Scandinavia, built over the burial site of Saint Olav (King Olav II), Norway's patron saint.

The original Rose Window, a magnificent work of art measuring 8 meters across and containing 10,000 glass pieces, symbolizes the rich Norse heritage and the long history of the Pilgrim's Route ( St. Olav's Way ).

Coloration and reflections are dependent on many factors like time of the day, lighting conditions and so on.
